A Fashionable Photo Session

There is nothing quite like exploring the eternal city with your best friend, especially when you have a professional lifestyle photographer along to capture the magic. Rome is a city built on historic stories. During this unique Friends PhotoShoot, we set out to capture a completely modern one filled with laughter, effortless style, and authentic Roman charm.

With two incredibly photogenic friends leading the way. Every cobblestone street corner became a gorgeous backdrop. And every candid moment turned into a stunning portrait. As an experienced Rome photographer, finding these expressive frames is what makes travel portraiture so rewarding.

Here is how we spent a perfect morning tracking an off-the-beaten-path route through Rome’s most iconic, historic neighborhoods.

Phase 1: A Friends PhotoShoot in Trastevere

Our session kicked off in the vibrant heart of Trastevere. Starting around the historic Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere. Known for its bohemian spirit and rich history, this specific quarter is an absolute dream for a lifestyle Friends PhotoShoot. The majestic Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere dominated by its beautiful Romanesque bell tower provided a stunning architectural anchor for our early morning frames. This neighborhood offers a totally different vibe compared to a classic couple photoshoot in Rome, trading expansive landmarks for intimate, rustic urban character.

Instead of sticking strictly to the main squares, we ducked into the quiet, labyrinthine alleyways. Rome rewards those who explore its secrets. We paused for creative model portrait in Rome against ancient wooden doorways, framed the girls against walls of lush green ivy, and let the natural morning light do the rest. The vibe here is completely texturized, rustic, and unmistakably Roman.

Moving through the neighborhood, we made our way to Piazza Trilussa. The sweeping stone steps and the historic fountain provided the perfect tiering for dynamic group shots and relaxed, sitting portraits before we prepared to cross the river.

Phase 2: Crossing Ponte Sisto & Editorial Street Style

Leaving Trastevere behind, we walked across the historic Ponte Sisto footbridge, taking in the panoramic views of the Tiber River. Mid-crossing, we even had a charming encounter with a curious local toddler who wanted to see what our shoot was all about. One of those spontaneous city interactions that makes a day unforgettable!

Once across the river, we leaned into a more structured, editorial aesthetic:

  • The Lungotevere Crosswalk: We captured sleek, cinematic movement shots as the girls crossed the street, framed beautifully by rows of classic Italian cars waiting at the red light.
  • Creative Off-Camera Lighting: Tucking into an old apartment entrance on Via dei Pettinari. We set up an external flash firing from deep within the building to create dramatic, high-fashion portraits with striking contrast. It was the perfect opportunity to implement the same techniques we use during proposal photography and video session in Rome to capture timeless, dramatic style.
  • A Sweet Intermission: Every great photoshoot needs a brief intermission. We stopped by the famous I Dolci di Nonna Vincenza window display to admire the Sicilian pastries. And grabbed a couple of cold sodas to use as fun, casual props while walking the back alleys.

Phase 3: Market Vibes and Cappuccinos at Campo de’ Fiori

Our final destination was the bustling, open-air morning market at Piazza Campo de’ Fiori. This phase of the shoot was all about high-energy, immersive lifestyle photography:

  • Market Exploration: The girls browsed the vibrant stalls, laughing over rows of fresh Roman artichokes and picking out morning fruit.
  • A Sensory Experience: We captured authentic, candid moments of them smelling artisanal herbs, sampling local spices, and tasting rich truffle cream sauce.
  • The Perfect Finish: We wrapped up the two-hour walking session exactly how any Roman morning should end. With a hot cappuccino at a local cafe bar tucked away in Largo dei Librari. Using a final, majestic wooden church door at Santa Barbara dei Librari for a few concluding classic portraits.
